Honorary degree for Professor Sir Steven Cowley


Professor Sir Steven Cowley has been awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Science by the Chancellor the Rt Hon Alan Milburn at the July graduation ceremonies.

Professor Sir Steven Cowley has been awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Science by the Chancellor the Rt Hon Alan Milburn at the July graduation ceremonies.

A theoretical physicist and international authority on fusion energy, he became the seventh Director of the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory in July 2018, and Princeton Professor of Astrophysical Sciences in September 2018.

He was President of Corpus Christi College and Professor of Physics at the University of Oxford from 2016-18 and Head of the EURATOM/CCFE Fusion Association and CEO of UKAEA from 2008-2015.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Society and of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He received a knighthood in June 2018 for services to science and to the development of nuclear fusion. From 2011-17 he was a member of the Prime Minister’s Council on Science and Technology.
